Materials

  • 2 cm thick t-shirt yarn in three colors (pink, green, and white)
  • Yarn needle
  • Size 6 crochet hook
  • Fabric glue
  • Scissors

Base of the Bag

  • Start with the main color (pink) and make a slip knot
  • Chain 27 stitches
  • Work in the back bumps of the chain, starting from the second bump from the hook; make 26 single crochet stitches
  • Chain one for height and turn the work
  • Work in the second chain, taking the top loop of the stitch; make single crochet stitches, taking one loop from the top and one from the back
  • Continue making single crochet stitches for a total of five rows

Body of the Bag

  • Make single crochet stitches around the entire base with five stitches on the short sides and 26 on the long sides
  • Add an increase (single crochet, chain one, single crochet) in each of the four corners
  • The total number of stitches around the base should be 66
  • Continue working in a spiral, making single crochet stitches in the center of each stitch from the previous row
  • Make a total of 13 rows of single crochet stitches for the body of the bag

Tulip Design

  • Switch to green yarn; in the same stitch where you finished the last row, make a slip stitch
  • Chain five (three for height, two for space), then make a double crochet in the same stitch
  • Skip two stitches and make a double crochet, chain two, and another double crochet in the third stitch
  • Repeat this pattern around the bag
  • Switch to white yarn; in the space between green double crochets, make a puff stitch
  • Puff stitch: chain three, make four double crochets leaving the last loop on the hook
  • Yarn over and pull through all five loops
  • Chain three to move to the next space and repeat in each space around the bag
  • Switch back to pink yarn; in each of the chain-three spaces between tulips, make three single crochet stitches
  • Make two more rows of single crochet stitches
  • Repeat the green leaf pattern (double crochet, chain two, double crochet) in the spaces between the single crochet stitches
  • Repeat the white tulip pattern in the spaces between green leaves
  • Switch back to pink yarn and make three single crochet stitches in each space between tulips
  • Make one more row of single crochet stitches

Handles

  • Make a row of slip stitches around the top edge of the bag, taking the top loop of each stitch
  • Use stitch markers to mark the corners of the bag
  • From the corner, chain 50 stitches for the handle
  • Slip stitch into the next marked corner
  • Make slip stitches along the side to the next corner
  • Repeat the process for the second handle
  • Work back along the handle chain, making single crochet stitches in the back bumps
  • Continue making single crochet stitches on the handle for two more rows
  • Finish with a final row of slip stitches to create a clean edge
